CQC (Care Quality Commissioning)
The practice is registered with the Godiva Commissioning Group and is working hard towards being CQC accredited by 2013 – when changes in the NHS come in. This target is high on the practice’s agenda.
The Edgwick Medical Centre is a research body, and it is also well on its way to becoming a Training Practice.
Research Studies
The practice works with the PCRN (Primary Care Research Network) which is part of the NHS National Institute for Health Research to conduct high quality research. Each study has ethical and scientific approval and addresses a significant issue for patients’ benefit. The topics chosen come from a full range of problems encountered in primary care.
In the early part of this year, Edgwick has already hosted a research team for a study on Blood Pressure in Ethnic Minorities. Following the success of this venture, the practice has committed to more studies. The practice recognises the value of continuous development in medicine and its commitment to research is a testament to this.
Medical Students
The practice works with The University of Warwick as a placement provider for aspiring doctors. Usually, the students only have the one opportunity to experience medicine in General Practice. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to the practice that each student has broad and deeply insightful placement. It can be a hindrance to the development of young doctors if patients refuse to see them. The practice would encourage patients to be supportive of trainee doctors in such circumstances.
The practice intends to further its commitment to training developing doctors by becoming a Teaching Practice. This would allow Edgwick to host far more doctors on placements and will give our full-time doctors the opportunity to share their knowledge, skill and experience with growing young minds.
